Dynamic Duo: A Celebration of Two of America’s Most Wonderous Airplanes

I enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in the spring of 1942 at the age of seventeen and earned my wings as a second lieutenant on April 16, 1944, but my dreams of flying single-engine fighters ended when I was “relegated to the copilot’s seat of the C-109 and C-87 aircraft, hauling gas and bombs to the romance-laden fighter groups in Western China.”

Dreams ended…until Dave Presta, Tom Nightingale, Sandy Tucker, and a host of well-connected friends made it possible for me to fulfill my bucket list.

This commemoration is a tribute to the designers and the builders, the fliers, and the “maintainers” of two of America’s “most wonderous airplanes”—the North American T-6 and the P-51 and the people who made my flights possible.

With heartfelt gratitude, I offer it to you.
